Ending Notes
Alas, all great journey must come to an end. But this is not the end my friends, as one journey ends, it is only the start of a new one. I must that this whole COM 125 journey has really been an eye opening experience for me. Learning more about the world of internet together with friends. Who knew that was so much out there for us to explore! I thought I was already knew a lot about the internet; spending on much time on it daily. I could not be further away from the truth, I had barely scratch the surface when it comes to knowing about the internet. This course has brought out relevant topics for discussion, highlighting finer points of the world of internet and making learning a fun experience indeed.
Writing this blog has also given up more insights on a particular topic, pushing us to find out more about it and eventually to share with everyone. I would like to thank Mr Choy. for being such a wonderful tour guide on this journey of exploring the internet with us and for coming up with this assignment to allow us to learn more about the world of internet. I have throughly enjoyed this course! I shall now end this blog with some comics about the internet. Enjoy! :)
Guess with Google around, no one will ever need that wise man that lives on top of the mountain any more :P

Future of the Internet
So what exactly does the future of the internet hold for us?
We now live in a data rich world, I believe the future of the internet will give us the power to harness this data anytime we want in our daily lives. We have devices that let us stay connected with the world wherever we go and at any time of the day. Glasses such as the one in the picture below would be ideal to carry out these tasks.
Having glasses that are permanently connected to the internet would be very useful indeed. They are small and compact, making them easy to carry around. And they do not look out of place when we use them. The possibilities of such an invention would be endless.
First of all, this may replace all previous forms of internet messengers. We can communicate directly with our friends without having to type a single letter. Think of this like a bluetooth headset, except that we are able to see the person we are talking to just like having a webcam conversation.
Secondly, all internet transactions can be voice activated and done with ease. Your credit card information can be stored in this glasses to make payment easier as well. In the screen shot above, shows that a person can actually make a concert booking through this glasses. It saves us a lot of time and effort of going through the whole booking process that is currently in place.
Thirdly, imagine we are shopping outside. When we pick a product up in our hands, the glasses can give us relevant information about the product. Maybe when we pick up a book, we can get reviews from amazon, background information about the author and so on. And when we pick up a CD for example, we may be able to listen to samples of the tracks and more. And when we pick up a DVD, trailers of the show can be shown to us. Or when it comes to food products, we are able to get a comparison with other products of similar nature, perhaps in terms of nutritional benefits or value for money.
Maybe we can also integrate a camera into the glasses as well. Taking photos with just a voice command and immediately uploading it to our flickr account. This would be much convenience to users and photo sharing will be really simple indeed.
Of course all this are just plain speculation but there is no way for certain we can figure out what the future of the internet will be like. But since all these data are being made available to us now on the internet, wouldn't it be wonderful if we can just draw them out when we need it, without having to use much effort on our part. Knowledge is power and if we can carrying all this knowledge with us where ever we go, then the future of the internet will be something to really look forward to.

Social Networking - Revisited
Social Networking sites are very powerful pages on the internet. They allow us to have a personal space in the online world for friends to link up with us. For today's blog entry I have visited Twitter to find out more about it. Comparing with Facebook, Twitter is very different indeed. Many people refer Twitter as a micro blogging site.
Like Facebook, Twitter allows a user have his or her own personal page. But these pages each comes with their own differences. For Twitter, a home page displays basic information such as your number of tweets, your followers, and the people whom you are following. In the main body of the page will be tweets made by you and your followers as seen in the image below.
As for Facebook, your profile pages contain your wall which is for you to put up posts or for friends to leave notes and comments for you. Personal information about you can be found at the side bar. As you can see from my own Facebook profile page below.
Although both may seem similar in a few aspects, facebook gives users more flexibility with the content of that you can post. Twitter has limited postings to be of 140 words or less. I believe this is to give greater mobility to users of Twitter since it is advertise as a micro blogging site, hence postings should be kept short.
One key feature that Twitter is lacking in comparison with facebook is the apps, there are various kinds of apps on facebook to enhance our online experiences and many of those revolve around games. As one can see below, I have added quite of few of these apps and I must admit that they are a great source of entertainment.
Games on facebook also makes use of its social networking principle and friends can come together to achieve common goals in games. Games are a great way to bond with friends especially when one may be too busy for a physical meet up.
Another key differences is sharing of photos. Twitter only lets you embed a single photo in a tweet and you have to go off site to look at it. Facebook on the other hand, allows all uploaded photos to be display on your personal page and through tagging, friends will also get a copy of the photo in their page as well. This is a very useful for sharing a huge amount of photo among friends.
Friends are also able to comment on the photo and they provide a good place for us to discuss on the happenings of that very day.
So which is better? Both have their up points and my solution is why just stick to one social networking site, get both of them! Twitter provides a excellent platform for close friends to obtain small updates in your daily life. They help us feel connected to our friends even though we are not physically together.
Facebook on the other hands, have apps for us to use and games to enjoy. We can play such games with our friends and help make our bond of friendship stronger. In addition, the site provides a great way to share photos and it gives up more flexibility in customizing our personal pages.
Long live Twitter and Facebook! =P
